Cultivating Deeper Connections
Ending this incredible 2024 season with Katheryn Barton from Uplift & Connect Counselling
left me full of love and wanting to run and tell all my friends about her services.
Katheryn is a liscensed couples and individual therapist who specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) - which was a new concept for me; this method that helps individuals and couples connect with their emotional responses, even those we may not fully understand or recognize.
During our meetup, she explained how emotional responses often guide our interactions without us realizing it. Her ability to help us name and understand these emotions was eye-opening, and since the session, I’ve found myself pausing to reflect on where my emotional reactions come from in my day-to-day life—and girlllllllll I've noticed a lot of these coming up (especially at work!).
Submitted Questions:
Some of you submitted questions for Katheryn and I want to cover them here:
Will we talk about deeply personal things like sex at couples therapy?
YES! Katheryn talked about the importance of intimacy in a marriage and how working through these things can be beneficial for all parties. Checkout some of her great instagram posts on the topic.
I'm afraid of going to couples therapy because I'm afraid it'll lead to divorce. Is this true?
NO! Katheryn is passionate about helping couples rekindle their connection. She'll work with couples to improve communication, enhance emotional connection, work through conflicts, understand patterns, and increase empathy. She's there to support, no matter the outcome.
How do we keep couples therapy from being one sided?
Through Katheryn's years of experience and tried and true approach, she ensures both perspectives are heard at each session. She keeps a very open communication style with her clients and ensures whatever is shared is shared with the group, so that there are no opportunities for biases.
TLDR: If you’ve been curious about couples therapy or have considered it as a way to deepen your connection with your partner, Katheryn is your girl!
Her approachable and grounded style makes you feel instantly at ease. As her website states, If you are looking for a laid-back, neutral, supportive yet ‘I’ll call you on your bullsht’ approach, she might just be the perfect fit.
Also, NBD (no big deal), but she’s also licensed in sign language, offering a unique and valuable resource for individuals or couples who prefer not to bring a translator into such an intimate space.
